Abstract

© 2017, Instituto Nacional de Salud. All rights reserved. In mid-19th century Lima, Peru, death had various causes. Nonetheless, epidemics raised greater concern among the population and authorities. The highest number of deaths was due to endemic diseases caused by poor sanitary conditions. However, as these were accepted as routine deaths, they were ignored.
