N2 - The productive pararneters of Jive weight, feed intake, feed conversion and rnortality, during the first four weeks oflife in Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnixjaponica) are reported. Three breeding groups (L 1, L2 and L3) consisting of 1,400 birds each, were subdivided ínto 14 random experimental units of 100 caged quail. Statistically significant differences (P<0.05) were found in final live weight l l 4.3g, 1 l 3.8g and 108.6g for groups Ll, L2 and L3, as well as forfinal weight gain (106.2g, 105.5gand 100.4g). Differences in cumulative feed consurnption were statistically significant (P<0.05) between group L l (309.3g) and L3 (305.6g), as well as between L2 (309. lg) and L3 (305.6g), but not for groups Ll and L2. Feed conversion rates of2.71 (group Ll}, 2.72 (group L2) and 2.8 (group L3) were not statistically significant except for group L3 (P>0.05). Mortality rates of3.4%, 4.1% and 3.2% for Ll, L2 and L3 respectively, were not statistically different (P>0.05).
