Sonograms of flexor tendons and ligaments in the metacarpal region of 15 clinically injured thoroughbred horses are presented and possible interpretations are discussed. The observed elements and lesions are compared to sonograms of the sound opposite limb or another view in a different plane at the same site. Transverse and sagital plane sonograms taken at three different si tes of the metacarpal region in a sound animal are used to show structural variation in form and shape as well as in echogenicity throughout the region.
