Abstract

This is the «fuchsia» family, which is represented in Peru by six genera and 76 species (Brako & Zarucchi, 1993; Ulloa Ulloa et al., 2004), mostly shrubs and herbs. Here we recognize 24 endemic species, most of them in the genus Fuchsia. These endemic species are found mainly in the Very Humid Montane Forests region, between 1600 and 2500 m elevation. Ten endemic species have been recorded in the Peruvian System of Protected Natural Areas.
