Abstract

Using copper - zinc - silver sulfide minerals from the Marañon Complex in the eastern Peruvian Andes mountains (Huanuco region), fine quality copper cathodes (plates) have been obtained through hydrometallurgical processes (leaching, solvent extraction and electrodeposition), which gives the copper concentrates a higher technological value. These products have been characterized with several techniques such as X rays Diffraction, X Rays Diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy, wich allows to have a better information concerning to the participant species and also helps to control and optimize these metallurgical processes. Electrolytic copper recoveries of around 99.98 % are reported, which indicates the possibility to lower the costs and promote the use of cleaner technologies (leaching, solvent extraction and electrowinning) for national sulfide minerals.
