Abstract

This family is recognized in Peru with two genera and more than 100 species (Smith, 1992; Smith et al., 2005), occupying a wide range of environments. The genus Thelypteris includes 17 endemisms. All endemics, except one from the Mesoandean region, occur in the Humid Montane and Premontane Forests regions, between 400 and 3400 m elevation. Eight species are known from protected areas.
