Abstract

Students always have difficulty in assimilating the knowledge imparted by teachers because the classical process of teaching and learning is individual and depends on various factors specific to each student, fundamentally. And now, information and communication technologies have been deeply involved in this process, even more making extensive use of social networks as a pedagogical tool. This article summarizes a teaching-learning experience with quasi-experimental methodological design that uses the social network Facebook to try to increase the academic performance of students. With this purpose, two groups of a compulsory course were selected in the Faculty of Computer Science, one controlled with the traditional method and the other experimentally controlled with the help of the aforementioned social network. Results show an improvement in academic performance of students using a social network.
