Resumen
The empowerment and respect for women’s rights has been a process and transition that is still in dispute, being access to education one of the main points to highlight; university education represents a link to professional development and its impact on society, where women through various struggles and pronouncements were shortening the abysmal gap that existed. The present study aims to identify illustrious university women through the historical context they faced in Latin America, with emphasis on Peru, under a qualitative approach, documentary review of primary and secondary sources. One of the main results was that, thanks to the fact that women imposed themselves against history and patriarchal culture, going against the mechanisms of gender discrimination, significant changes have been achieved in the access to higher education for women, allowing to shorten the existing gap, although these cultural lags still exist.
