MANUEL GONZALEZ PRADA AND TRANSLATION AS RECREATION: THE CASE OF “ERLKÖNIG” BY JOHANN WOLFGANG GOETHE

Producción científica: Contribución a una revistaArtículorevisión exhaustiva

Resumen

This work studies the translation of Manuel Gonzalez Prada as part of the “internationalizing and modernizing program” proposed by Antonio Cornejo Polar, who sought to inscribe Peruvian literature in modernity at the end of the 19th century. Thus, the work is divided into three parts. The first seeks to construct the “poetics of translation” by Manuel Gonzalez Prada as a recreation based on his comments or opinions scattered throughout his essays. The second section focuses on the Peruvian’s interest in the Germanic ballad and the relationship with his own production crystallized in his book Baladas. Finally, the third section seeks to describe, explain and confront the process of translation as a recreation carried out by Gonzalez Prada on the poem “Erlkönig” by Johann Wolfgang Goethe.
