Resumen
Mechanical milling was performed on the Fe2Sc and Fe2Y intermetallic compounds which have C14 and C15 Laves phases, respectively. The structural variation during the milling was followed by X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The results indicated that ball milling first leads to a partially chemical disorder in the Fe2Sc compound followed by an amorphization, while ball milling induces an amorphization in Fe2Y compound without undergoing a detectable atomic disorder in the lattice.
