Tiempos de revolución. La Gaceta del Gobierno de Lima y su discurso político contra la independencia de América, 1810-1816

In the context of the Hispanic imperial crisis and the domestic political impact of the emergence of government boards in Latin America, La Gaceta del Gobierno de Lima emerged in 1810 as a publication promoted by Viceroy Abascal. The newspaper was not only an official print, but also a staunch defender of the Spanish cause. In this perspective, this research analyzes the political discourse of the newspaper based on four central thematic axes: fidelism to the Crown and its rejection of independence, criticism and censorship of the Buenos Aires revolution, the counterrevolutionary war in America (especially Upper Peru) and the defeat of the revolutions of Tacna (1811 and 1813), Huánuco (1812) and Cusco (1814-1815).
